Invisalign® clear aligners are one of the most in-demand orthodontic solutions around. Invisible aligners are very difficult to notice, even close up, allowing patients to straighten their teeth without the whole world knowing. Our Invisalign® dentist in the Chicago Loop offers this treatment among other cosmetic dentistry solutions to help patients get the most beautiful smile possible.
How Invisalign® Works
A person who decides to undergo Invisalign® treatment will receive a series of clear aligners which straighten their teeth over time. Replaced approximately every two weeks, each set of Invisalign® aligners will gradually shift the patient’s natural teeth by applying gradual pressure.
The Invisalign® Process
Every successful treatment plan begins with a consultation with our Invisalign® dentist. During your consultation, we will discuss your goals and examine your smile. Through a thorough examination, our dentist can determine if you are an ideal candidate for aligner treatment. Most people who are in good oral health are able to undergo treatment with Invisalign®.
In order to create the series of aligners, impressions will be taken of the patient’s teeth. The patient will need to wear the aligners most hours of the day in order to move onto the next set of aligners. When the patient has completed their regimen, the treatment is complete!
Life With Invisalign®
Like with traditional braces, there are some aspects of wearing Invisalign® that take some getting-used-to. Invisalign® must be worn most hours of the day (20-22 hours) and removed only for eating, drinking non-water drinks, and daily care.
It’s recommended that those undergoing treatment take care to brush their teeth after meals and rinse their aligners each time they are removed. In the morning and at night, Invisalign® aligners need to be deep cleaned.
The Health Benefits of Straight Teeth
Though many people approach orthodontics with the intention of getting a beautiful smile they feel confident showing off, there’s more to straight teeth than aesthetics. Having a well-aligned smile can provide many health benefits, including:
- Reduced wear-and-tear. Teeth that are misaligned are likely to grind against one another and cause damage in the form of chips, cracks, and breaks.
- Improved digestion. Those who are living with poor dental alignment may have more difficulty chewing their food into pieces that are small enough to digest.
- Fewer headaches. Teeth that grind against one another can cause pain that radiates upwards through your face and head.
- Easier to clean. Brushing and flossing can be difficult if any of your teeth are too close to one another. Well-aligned teeth are less likely to experience tooth decay.
